Directory traversal vulnerability in scheduler/ui/js/ffffffffbca41eb4/UIUtilJavaScriptJS in SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java 7.5 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the query string, as exploited in the wild in August 2017, aka SAP Security Note 2486657.
do firstApply mitigations per vendor instructions, follow applicable BOD 22-01 guidance for cloud services, or discontinue use of the product if mitigations are unavailable.
Can a WAF block it? Yes. The vulnerability is exploited via directory traversal using '..' in the query string of an HTTP request, which is unusual and can be detected by a WAF rule matching such sequences. A WAF rule can match '..' sequences in the query string. No tracked WAF vendor has published a rule for this CVE yet, so you would write it yourself.
What a custom rule would match: '..' sequences in the query string

Is CVE-2017-12637 being exploited?
Yes. CVE-2017-12637 appears in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog, which means exploitation in the wild has been confirmed and reported. Treat it as active rather than theoretical, and patch it ahead of higher-scoring vulnerabilities that carry no exploitation evidence.
How severe is CVE-2017-12637?
CVE-2017-12637 is rated High with a CVSS score of 7.5. Severity describes how bad exploitation would be, not how likely it is: pair it with exploitation evidence before deciding what to patch first.
